Our 2012 JazzFest educational activities have reached over 2,600 students in our surrounding communities!

Participating schools included:  Firestone High School, Bedford High School, Maplewood High School, Cuyahoga Falls High School, General McLane High School, Vermilion High School, Kent State University, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Cleveland Heights High School, Youngstown State University, Lakewood High School, Oberlin College, Lakeland Community College, John Carroll University, Cleveland School of the Arts, Cleveland Municipal Schools All-City


HIGHLIGHTS

Master Classes were given by bassist Robert Hurst, drummer Matt Wilson, trumpeters Terell Stafford, record producer Tommy LiPuma, and NEA Jazz Masters Jack DeJohnette and Jimmy Owens.

Student ensembles were involved in workshops with Terell Stafford, Robert Hurst, Matt Wilson, Sean Jones, Dominick Farinacci, Jerome Jennings, Joe Hunter and David Sterner.

Roots of American Music presented “Journey to the Land of the Blues” during the educational days on campus, and Joe Hunter and Becky Ogden presented “Jazz for Kids” at the Children’s Museum for wee-boppers and their families.

In addition, JazzFest initiated the Young Visiting Artists Program, directed by Tri-C alumnus Dominick Farinacci. The Young Artists made several trips to Cleveland in 2011-12 focused on school residencies and performances.
