jmcGSHave you ever wanted to work behind the scenes at a news station? Are you planning on majoring in journalism at a four-year institution? Or, are you interested in a career with the media? Whatever your goal in the field of Journalism and Mass Communications, Tri-C has a program that will help you meet your objectives. The curriculum for a writing career includes developing skills for print, web and broadcast news writing, and public relations and advertising copywriting. You will hone reporting and editing skills across a spectrum of media. Courses in radio broadcast and television production include hands-on training with studio and field equipment. Television production courses emphasize the operation of cameras, lighting, editing and post-production equipment. If you're interested in working in the film industry, you'll have an opportunity to design, shoot and edit your own projects. With an Associate degree from
Tri-C, you can transfer to a four-year university to obtain a bachelor's degree to advance in the field.

Tri-C offers an Associate of Arts degree in Journalism/Mass Communications. An articulation agreement with Kent State University assures a seamless transfer for a Bachelor of Science degree, or you may choose a four-year institution of your choice. Tri-C graduates are prepared for the following positions:

• Reporter (small daily or weekly newspaper)

• TV camera operator

• Television news or production assistant

• Copywriter

• Proofreader

With a four-year degree:

• Newspaper/magazine reporter

• Public relations manager

• Advertising copywriter

• Broadcast news reporter

• Broadcast studio producer

• Professional/technical writer
