Jazz Studies

The jazz tradition is one of diversity and originality where no two artists sound alike.
The Tri-C Jazz Studies teaching philosophy is grounded in the fundamentals: blues, swing, and the American songbook. You will acquire the skills at Tri-C to develop your own voice as a musician.  It is an opportunity to learn about the music in yourself, and yourself in the music.

The Jazz Performance faculty, led by director of Jazz Studies, Steve Enos, is a distinguished cadre of working musicians, veterans of the business, who are passionate about both their art and their teaching. They are world-class artists who are also caring teachers and mentors.  They can give you the practical know-how to succeed in your playing and in the business. They can teach you how to manage yourself and your career.

In the jazz tradition, a student is mentored by a master.  The master passes on the traditions of the jazz language as well as the ability and desire to contribute something original and personal.  The Tri-C jazz faculty, along with an impressive collection of visiting performers and artists-in-residence, recreates that jazz continuum.

Credits earned at Tri-C will transfer to many of the most prestigious music colleges and conservatories. The College has a transfer agreement with Berklee College of Music, located in Boston, MA. Berklee is the world’s largest independent music college and the premier institution for the study of contemporary music.

At Berklee, you can turn your love of music into a career.  Berklee offers student musicians courses of study toward a fully accredited four-year baccalaureate degree or diploma in some of the following majors: Dizzy trumpet
